What's happening at the RecCentre this month?
Women's Facilities & Services Trial
The UC RecCentre is pleased to announce that from Monday 25th July, we will be trialling a range of services specifically for women. Included in this, is the provision of women only times in selected areas - Circuit Room, Athlete Training Centre 1, Squash Mezzanine and the Spin Room.
Please note that access to the primary fitness areas (Fitness Centre, Mezzanine, Boxing room , sportshall/gymnasium, climbing wall and squash courts) remains unaffected. As such, all facilities/equipment remain available to everyone in different locations in the facility. See a full list of services and check out the scheduled hours and locations.
Winter Spin Series - last one this week!
Hit up the last 75min Spin class with Stu, as he tackles the final stages of the Tour de France with you. Classes have been selling out, so make sure you don't miss out by booking your spot! We only take bookings for special classes like these, so head to reception to get your place. Thursday 5.10pm.
GrabOne Concession Card special
The GrabOne concession card special has been extended. If you're an occasional gym goer, are visiting short term or maybe just use the basketball or squash courts once a week, this might be an excellent way to save some cash. Purchase a 10 visit concession card for just $49 through GrabOne, normally $100. A casual visit is $11 per time otherwise. Don't worry, while it says Pilates/Yoga, you can use your concession card to enter the gym and then attend any class you like, use the gym, or play ball, just like a member can. (*fees apply for spin, equipment hire etc as per normal).
Are you keen to run the Queenstown or Dunedin half marathon, maybe the Crater Rim or Long Beach events at the end of year? Run Canterbury are offering support programmes for the 2nd half of the year to help you get there. Building on the extremely successful Christchurch 1/2 Marathon programme that has been run for over 20years, you'll be in expert hands. Check out all the details on the UC Sport website. TeachMe - Free Gym Intro sessions
Would you like to start working out at the gym, but not sure where to start? You can get free advice and education from our gym staff by booking in for a TeachMe Gym Intro session. Just 30mins long, and limited to around 4 people per session, we will take you through the basics of some of the equipment and training styles on offer at the gym, giving you the confidence to build your own programmes and evaluate what you see on the web. We offer sessions in free weights, machine weights, foam rolling, core, kettlebells, intervals & circuits, swissball and suspension training. StartMe - Free Gym Programmes
Ready to start your health & fitness journey but not sure where to start? Try a StartMe session with a qualified fitness consultant. They're FREE! We'll take you on a tour of the facility (if you want one), have a chat to you about your goals and experience, and then take you through a basic gym programme to get you started. You can request a male or female consultant if you have a preference, please just ask at the time of booking. It's the ideal time to get started and get your routines in place for Semester 2!
